Tips to prepare your travel around Ireland

Your journey through Ireland ​​ approaches, nerves are beginning, and you don´t know how to prepare your luggage.

Don´t worry, today we are going to give you some tips for planning your trip and you will not miss anything!

 

WHAT KIND OF CLOTHES DO I NEED? 

Irish people say that if you don´t like the weather here, you just have to wait 30 minutes, because it will change! The climate in Ireland is highly variable, even in the summer. July and August are warm months with sunny days and many hours of light, but remember that the temperature will never exceed 20 ° C and rain may appear at any time. We recommend you bring a rain jacket, jackets or hoodies, and some t-shirts. As for footwear, two pairs of shoes, the most comfortable you have and some of them should be waterproof.

Make sure your luggage is as light as possible to carry it from city to city and leave some space for your shopping!

DOCUMENTS

If you are a citizen of the European Union, your National Identity Card is only necessary, but it never hurts to bring your passport if you have it too.

IMPORTANT:
The European Health Insurance Card is required to access public health in Ireland. If for any reason you can’t bring it, we recommend getting travel insurance.

 THINGS TO CHECK:

• We will give you a free Irish Sim Card with your welcome pack, which obviously works on phones when they are unblocked. If you want to use the phone card from your country, we recommend you activate the roaming service with your company and consult fees to avoid unpleasant surprises on the bill.
• Notify your bank of your travel dates and destination to avoid having problems when using them. American Express, MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted. Check with your bank charges or fees for using cards abroad. (Travelling with lots of cash is not the most secure thing)

AIRPORT

• Before coming:

1. Beware of the weight of your bags. Check with your airline the maximum weight of luggage and try to weigh before you check in at the airport. The excess baggage rates are usually very high.

2. Arrive  on time. This time of year the queues in both check in and security control may be longer than usual, so don´t arrive at the last minute!

3. Remember to check in online before your flight, depending on the company you can do it up to 2 or 4 hours before departure. It is better not to risk leaving it to the last moment, and avoid paying extra money.

• When you arrive at the airport:

If you’ve hired our pick up service at the airport, there will a man or woman from Travelling Languages waiting for you with a paper with your name who will take you directly to your accommodation. You can still book this service by contacting us.

Otherwise, we suggest using public transport. Buses from the airport to central Dublin are nº16 and nº 41. The ticket costs € 3.05 and is paid directly to the driver. The journey takes about 1 hour.

Other alternatives are the Airlink bus, Aircoach or nº 747. The cost is more expensive, between €6 and €8, but theses buses go direct and only take 20 minutes to arrive in the centre, specifically the Trinity College area.

And finally, change the time on your watch! The local time in Dublin coincides with London time, which is the Greenwich Meridian. The time you have to select are GMT 0.

DON´T FORGET…

• Umbrella. It is essential because the average rainfall is 280 days a year.
• Sunscreen and hat. Do not trust, when the sun comes out in Ireland you can easily burn without realizing it. If you have sensitive skin, put some suncream on before .
• At least one adapter. Here there are 3 pin plugs, type 1363, and electric current is 220 volts at 50Hz. You can find adapters at any hardware store for €2 or 3 €.
• It never hurts to bring a bag for dirty clothes. Anyway, hostels and B&B where we will stay have a washing machine or laundry service available (extra charge).
• Typical medicines: antibiotics, anti-inflammatory,…
• Photocopies of cards and documents. It is always advisable to carry a photocopy of both sides of your credit and debit cards in a separate place in case of loss, theft or damage, and the ID and the European Health Insurance Card.
• Of course the camera to capture the best moments and the fantastic landscapes of the trip, which will be a lot!
